3rd International online Harp Competition “Crescere con la musica” (“Growing up with music”)

Rules

Art. 1

The Cagliari “Arpeggiando” Music Association holds the third International online Harp Competition “Crescere con la musica” (“Growing up with music”) in order to promote music culture and increase the passion for the study of the harp among young people.

Art. 2

The competition is open to young Italian and foreign harpists attending conservatories, music high schools, middle schools specialized in music, music schools, music associations or individual harp courses, in which the harp is taught according to the Suzuki method or the traditional method.

Art. 3

In order to enter the competition in the Suzuki Category, applications must include a certificate stating that the harpist’s teachers achieved a Suzuki Method certificate.

Art. 4

Videos must be sent by 31st May 2023.

Videos received outside the established dates will not be considered by the commission.

Art. 5

Contestants must submit a video of the planned performance, by posting it on their YouTube channel as “Unlisted” and specifying the relevant link on their application form, in order to enable the commission to preview the performance.

The video must specify First and last name, applicant’s category and title of the piece.

Art. 6

The videos must be shot horizontally and with a medium close-up framing showing the contestant’s face and hands. The commission will discard videos with poor quality images where the contestant is not recognizable.

Art. 7

Registration

All applications must be submitted exclusively via email to the Cagliari “Arpeggiando” Music Association at the following address:

All applications must be sent by 31st May 2023

Name, surname and category/ies of participants to the competition must be indicated in the subject line of the email-

The application must be countersigned by a parent.

The following documents must be attached to the application:

  • A copy of the identity document of the participant, together with the privacy authorization and the authorization for the use of images.
  • Copy of parents’ authorization to join the contest.
  • A copy of the payment of the registration fee made via bank transfer to “Arpeggiando” Music Association.

Contestants from outside the European Community will receive an e-mail with the QR code for the payment of the registration fee by PAYPAL.

Art. 8

The competition registration fee amounts to € 50.

If a contestant subscribes to more than one category, he/she will benefit from a 20% reduction on the second registration fee.

Art. 9

The Selection Board of the Suzuki Division , whose decision is final, incontestable and unappealable, will be composed by harp teachers specialized in the Suzuki Method at the 5th level or higher of the Suzuki certificates.

Art. 9 bis

The Selection Board of the Classical Method Division, whose decision is final, incontestable and unappealable, will be composed by renowned and top-class harp teachers and performers.

Art. 10

If a contestant is a student of a member of the jury, the latter will not take part in the voting.

Art. 11

Competition for Suzuki and Classical Method Divisions will take place exclusively online and will be subdivided into 5 categories.

Cat. A From 4- to 6-year-old contestants having their birthday by the end of May 2023.

Programme: two pieces, of which one is mandatory, Twinkle, Twinkle Variation C, from the I volume of the Harp School (International Edition), and the other one is freely chosen by the teacher.
Maximum duration: 3 minutes

Cat. B From 7- to 9-year-old contestants having their birthday by the end of May 2023.

Programme: two pieces, of which one is mandatory, Lightly Row no. 3, from the I volume of the Harp School (International Edition), and the other one is freely chosen by the teacher.

Maximum duration: 5 minutes

Cat. C From 10- to 12-year-old contestants having their birthday by the end of May 2023.

Programme: two pieces, of which one is mandatory, Siciliana by M. K. Waddington, from the II volume of the Harp School (International Edition), and the other one is freely chosen by the teacher.

Maximum duration: 7 minutes

Cat. D From 13- to 15-year-old contestants having their birthday by the end of May 2023.

Programme: two pieces, of which one is mandatory, Andante from Sonatina no. 2 by J. Dussek, from the III volume of the Harp School (International Edition), and the other one is freely chosen by the teacher.

Maximum duration: 10 minutes

Cat. E From 16- to 17-year-old contestants having their birthday by the end of May 2023.

Programme: two pieces, of which one is mandatory, Paquita’s Dance l. Minkus from the IV volume of the Harp School (International Edition), and the other one is freely chosen by the teacher.

Maximum duration: 12 minutes

Art. 12

Competition for the Classical Method Division will take place exclusively online and will be subdivided into 3 categories.

Cat. A Children Contestants up to 10-year-old having their birthday by the end of May 2023.

Open programme of a maximum duration of 6 min. including at least one piece chosen among the following artists:  B. Andrès, G. Bosio, N. Gustavson, M. Grandjany, J. Waidensaul, H. Purcell, 

 C. Salzedo, H.Reniè

Cat. B Medium From 11- to 14-year-old contestants having their birthday by the end of May 2023.  

Open programme of a maximum duration of 12 min. including at least one piece chosen among the following artists: B. Andrès, J. L. Dussek,  F. Godefroid, F. J. Naderman, G. F. Haendel, 

H. Hasselmmans ,H. Reniè, C. Salzedo, M. Tournier

Cat. C Superior From 15- to 18-year-old contestants having their birthday by the end of May 2023.

Open programme of a maximum duration of 20 min. including at least one piece chosen among the following artists: C. N. Bochsa, J. L. Dussek, G. Faurè F. Godefroid, G. F. Haendel, 

H. Hasselmmans, P. Hindemith , J. Ibert, E. Parish Alvars J. Parry , G. Piernè,

H. Reniè, C. Salzedo, M. Tournier, J. Thomas 

Art. 13

Performing by heart is not mandatory.

Art. 14

The results of the competition will be both communicated to the winners via email and published on the competition website, www.arpeggiando.it, by 30th June 2023.

The videos of the winners of the first absolute prizes will be published on the Association’s YouTube channel..

Art. 15

Suzuki Method Division Prizes 

Awards will be assigned according to the following ranges of scores.

From 96 to 100, 1st Prize Diploma;

from 91 to 95, 2nd Prize Diploma;

from 85 to 90, 3rd Prize Diploma. 

The winners of the First Absolute Prize (i.e. those who achieved the highest score in each category) will receive, in addition to the diploma, a money prize, divided as follows:

Category B

1st overall money prize € 100

Classical Method Division Prizes

The First and the Second Absolute Prize (i.e. those who achieved the highest score in each category) will receive, in addition to the diploma, a money prize, divided as follows:

Children Division

1st overall money prize € 100

Medium Division:

1st overall money prize € 150

Art. 16

All participants will obtain a participation certificate.

All awarded students’ teachers will receive a certificate of merit.

Art. 17

“Arpeggiando” Music Association will assign the special award “In Memoriam of Gabriella Bosio” to the harpist who will have stood out for his/her performance in playing a piece from Gabriella Bosio’s book “I Play the Harp”, independently from the awards won.

Consisting of a prize worth 200 €

Art. 18

Registration implies the complete and unconditioned acceptance of these Rules.

For any dispute, the Court of Cagliari will have jurisdiction.
